The Troy High School football team had their first shut-out of the year in a 54-0 loss to the 4-1 Clark Fork Mountain Cats last Friday, but held a strong line against the co-op team’s offense.

“We actually played our best defensive game of the season,” said Troy Head Coach Luke Haggerty by email. “We made a lot of good open field tackles and competed well.”

Despite being held back on yardage and the relentless Mountain Cat march down the firld, Troy knocked out 42 tackles as a team, and Trojan junior Terren Winebark made an interception off Clark Fork.

“I was really pleased with our efforts, especially Alex Harper and Terren Winebark,” Haggerty said. “They each forced turnovers and were factors on defense all night.”

Both of the Trojan juniors had five tackles for the game, outdone only by sophomore Dylan Peterson with seven.

“Offensively we just couldn’t get going,” Haggerty said. “Overall, the game was a lot closer than the score, and I was pleased with the effort our guys gave.”

Heading into their next game tonight at Darby, Haggerty said he wanted his players to focus on their strengths.

“If we keep working hard and play Troy Trojan football we should have a much more competitive game against them,” he said.
