Gold Hill most active of area wildfires over weekend

Of area wildfires, the Gold Hill fire was the most active over the weekend, prompting increased traffic delays on Pipe Creek Road due to the increased use of heavy equipment in firing operations.

“Traffic will be let through as conditions allow,” states a Monday morning incident report.

The fire’s size grew from 4,400 acres Thursday to 5,830 Monday morning, while containment remained at 15 percent, according to the report.

“[Monday,] operations (will) focus on indirect line preparation and holding to the northwest of Shafer Creek,” the report states.

Pre-evacuation orders still stood for properties near mile markers 11 and 13.

Davis

The Davis fire has held steady at 6,614 acres, while containment increased to 40 percent, according to a Monday morning incident report.

Monday evening, a local Type 3 team was to assume management of the fire.

“Fire activity is expected to remain minimal as resources continue log and slash removal and fire suppression rehabilitation,” the report states.

Sterling Complex

The Pinkham Tower and Huckleberry fires that comprise the Sterling Complex held steady at 1,405 acres, according to a Monday morning incident report. Containment was 85 percent.

“Cooler temperatures and trace precipitation are helping quiet areas of the fire still containing heat,” the report states. “Mop up and gridding continue to advance the goal toward 100 percent containment. In other areas of the fire already known to be cool, suppression repair and rehab work are well underway.”

Some creeping and smoldering was reportedly still possible Monday, though fire behavior “should be minimal.”
