Rosendale doesn't support us

| October 12, 2018 4:00 AM

With so many Montanans are already struggling to access quality, affordable health care, you would think that our elected officials would be trying to find solutions. Unfortunately for us, our state’s Insurance Commissioner, Matt Rosendale, is more interested in cooperating with insurance company interests than understanding what many Montanans, and many Americans, really need.

Rosendale and his office introduced “short-term” health insurance plans last week and celebrated them for being a “cheaper” option for Montanans. Well, they’re only cheaper until you’re slammed with the medical bills for all of the health care those plans don’t have to cover.

The plans Rosendale has pushed can deny coverage to Montanans with preexisting conditions. Once again, Montanans with cancer or diabetes could find themselves unable or going broke to cover medical care. These health insurance plans are designed to take people’s money and give them shoddy health care coverage in return, and exclude those who cannot afford decent healthcare.

Rosendale’s solution to unaffordable health care is to push plans that don’t cover basic services and can refuse to provide coverage for 152,000 Montanans. That says a lot about his priorities.

As a former legislative constituent, I won’t be supporting Rosendale, because Rosendale doesn’t support me or my family, friends and neighbors!
