Troy sophomore Ella Pierce and junior Hunter Leighty got a chance to whet their appetites for further competition during the Class “B” State Track Meet in Laurel on Friday.

Leighty blasted through the 400m dash, cutting a full second off his previous personal best time and taking 8th place with 51.89 seconds.

In the 200m dash, Leighty hit 24.18 seconds in the preliminaries, less than a half second short of qualifying for the finals. He finished the 100m dash in 11.88 seconds in the preliminaries, 0.1 seconds short of beating his personal best, and just a hair away from the slowest finals qualifier at 11.6 seconds.

Pierce did not make it out of the preliminaries in the 100m hurdles, but with a time of 18.28 seconds was not far from her 18.16 second personal best.

She held at 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump in the preliminaries.
