After 42 years, another Libby High School track and field record was broken at the State Meet in Laurel Saturday when senior Gavin Strom reached 22 feet, 5 inches in the long jump.

Strom passed the old record by 4 inches, and his personal best from May 12 by almost six.

Strom, senior Brian Peck and junior Emily Mossburg will enter the Libby High School Athletic Hall of Fame from State performances.

Peck earned entry with second place in the 110m hurdles. Peck seeded 5th in the preliminaries with a personal best 15.75 seconds, but dropped it again to 15.29 in the finals.

Mossburg was inched out of first by Fergus’ Marissa James’ 5 foot, 4 inch high jump over Mossburg’s 5 feet, 3 inch. Yet, Mossburg bested her personal record by 3 inches.

Mossburg took third in the 400m dash with 1:00.31 on Friday, less than a quarter second shy of her personal best time.

Freshman Jay Beagle placed fourth in the 400m dash, with 51.25 seconds, only 0.42 seconds behind first-place finisher Jake Jessop of Corvallis.

The girls 4x400m relay team also placed high, taking third with 4:08.1.

In fifth place, junior Emma Gruber had a personal best of 48.86 seconds in the 300m hurdles, and though she fell short of her previous record-setting throw, senior Shannon Reny hit 36 feet, 9.5 inches.

The season has seen a number of additions to the Libby High School Top 10 for both the boys and girls, including the new school records from Reny and Strom, said Head Coach Jim May.
