Loggers face losses to Lakers AA, B

The Libby Loggers took back-to-back losses Tuesday and Wednesday to Kalispell’s B and AA teams.

On Tuesday, Kalispell’s Jack Corriveau held the Loggers to six hits and only one run over six innings, securing a 11-1 victory.

The Loggers again had to send multiple pitchers to the mound, with Garrett Gollahon racking up 65 pitches in three innings, compared to Corriveau’s 88 over six innings.

The Lakers made 10 hits off of Gollahon over three innings, while he walked two and struck out two others, but it wasn’t until the bottom of the third that the Kalispell runs really took off.

Three of the seven runs Kalispell scored that inning came when they took advantage of fielding errors, and one saw Kalispell’s Drew Scherrer run home from second on a ground ball to shortstop.

After loading up the bases, the Lakers made a run on every hit for three plays in a row, and their final run of the inning came from an error in the outfield.

Libby right fielder Ethan Borden caught a pop fly to finally end the onslaught.

Still, after a long third inning for Gollahon facing the Laker lineup, Austin McCully took the mound in the fourth.

In his two innings pitching, McCully allowed four hits and walked two Lakers hitters while striking out one.

Quade Anderson made Libby’s only RBI of the game in the top of the fifth, sending Tim Carvey home by doubling on a line drive to center field.

The Lakers runners continued to take advantage of every opportunity. Corriveau scored a run coming in from third in the fifth inning, despite a successful double play carried out by shortstop Tim Carvey and first baseman Trey Thompson that netted two outs.

The final Kalispell run came off a triple by Zach Cunningham that brought Taylor Morton home.

The following night, the Loggers faced an even tougher fight at home against Kalispell’s AA team, losing 21-0. The Lakers held the Loggers to a complete shutout, with no runs and no hits

On only the third batter in the Kalispell lineup, the Lakers’ AJ Jones homered on a fly ball to left field, also sending Kalispell’s Brandon Jordan home.

The Loggers again saw frequent changes on the mound. By the second inning when he was relieved by Carvey, Anderson had already thrown out 67 pitches. By the end of the six-inning game, the Lakers’ Siblurud only had 93.

In the top of the third, the Loggers managed to hold Kalispell for a time, starting off the inning with a fly out in foul territory caught by Libby’s Gollahon as catcher.

Center fielder Chris Auge caught another fly out, and Carvey struck out Siblurud in three pitches to close out the half inning.

Yet, Libby fared no better in the bottom of the inning, and Kalispell came back in the fourth to add six more runs, making the score 15-0.

By the sixth inning, the Lakers had worked through the arms of both Carvey and Moxley Roesler-Begalke, with 70 pitches between them, and Shayne Walker was on the mound.

Walker stuck out Kalispell’s Randy Stultz and the Lakers’ Jordan attempted to make first on a dropped third strike, but was tagged out.

Walker walked one, but ended the inning on a final strikeout against Kalispell’s Dawson Smith.

Yet, Siblurud answered in kind in the bottom of the sixth, pitching three strikeouts in a row.
