Helen Dahl

| June 8, 2018 4:00 AM

Helen Dahl, 95, of Libby received her wings April 20, 2018 while holding the hand of her daughter Diane at Libby Care Center. She was born March 2, 1923 to Clyde and Myrtle Scheffler in Noxon. She was one of nine children. She always let it be known how much she loved coming from a large family and then having one of her own.

Helen married Leroy Dahl in 1940. They moved to Scobey, where they lived on the family farm and several of their children were born. Eventually they moved to western Montana, where they both so appreciated the beauty of it.

Growing up in the mountains of Noxon, Helen acquired an impressive knowledge of the woods. A walk with her meant a lesson as she could name just about any plant, flower or berry. She enjoyed cooking and her fried chicken is legendary. She had a remarkable sense of humor which she kept through all of her 95 years. Anyone having a conversation with her children would know they inherited that from her.

Helen was known for her generous nature often giving to others when she herself didn’t have much. She loved being called Mom and Grandma and it didn’t matter if you were related to her or not. She will be missed immensely by many.

Helen is survived by her nine children — Sharon of Medford, Oregon, Carol of Oroville, Washington, Art (Cinda) of Three Forks, Judy (Sam) of Scobey, Diane (Mike) of Libby, Bennie of Bremerton, Washington, Lois (Myrl) of Whitefish, Linda (Craig) of Oceano, and Ken of Great Falls; her brother, Ralph Scheffler, of Florence; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many kind nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
