Hunting ethics workshop for kids is April 14 in Yaak Valley

The Yaak Valley Forest Council hosts its third hunting ethics workshop for youth from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at the old Sylvanite School at 11896 Yaak River Rd. in Yaak Valley.

Kids 12 and older are invited to attend, and may be accompanied by their parents.

Topics will include hunting ethics and regulations taught by Taylor Rockafellow, who will cover subjects such as preparation, taking reliable shots and practicing fair chase.

A member of David Thompson Search and Rescue will present on backcountry preparedness, including gear to pack for changes in weather or in case a hunter gets lost.

Retired U.S. Forest Service archeologist Becky Timmons will present on Native American hunting practices, and Tom Oar and Will Stringfellow of the History Channel’s “Mountain Men” show will teach primitive skills.

Certified archery instructors Kris and Pat Hanley will have several bows to offer participants a chance for archery practice.

Lunch will be included and reservations are requested.
