Schools' charter program receives grant

The Lincoln County Charter Program of Innovation is pleased to announce it has received a grant in the amount of $5,000 from Hecla Montana.

The grant funds will be used to help expand the school’s work-based learning programs.

“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Hecla Montana for their generous contribution to our vocational education efforts,” Libby Schools Superintendent Craig Barringer said. “This program is being developed to help prepare our students for the workforce, and having the involvement of our area’s business community is a key element of the program’s long-term success. Hecla’s contribution will help us prepare our students for success after high school.”

Lincoln County Vocational Program of Innovation prepares students for 21st Century career opportunities through a rigorous specialized curriculum, community-based partnerships, and field-based experiences inspiring students to be lifelong learners and community builders.

The Lincoln County Program of Innovation will help ensure students that students not only receive initial training and certification to kick start career endeavors but that the students are better prepared to enter the workforce with the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities required to succeed in the workforce. Partnerships among districts, educational institutions, businesses, governmental entities, and employers can assist in ensuring that our students are sufficiently prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities they face in the workplace.

The funds provided by the grant will be used to provide students with the ability to gain college and high school credits by successfully completing work-based experiences which will have frequent assessments of progress, and completion of the class/program through a semester end journaling.

The program’s goals are to:

o Provide quality and intensive vocational skills training to high school students.

o Equip student with competencies required in each course or qualification.

o Provide innovative workforce training and experience to Lincoln County students.

o Ensure partnerships provide successful training for student successes.

o Strengthen Lincoln County by training students for employment in the region.
