July events at Lincoln County public libraries

| June 30, 2017 4:00 AM

The Lincoln County Public Libraries will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of July. All events are free and open to the public.

Summer Reading is back. The theme is “Build a Better World.” This summer, we explore engineering, art, architecture, and civic engagement. Together we can try new things and feel empowered to make positive changes in the world. Stop by the library to register and to pick up your summer reading materials.

The Eureka library summer reading programs are Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m. Please call Esther at 406-296-2613 for details.

The Troy library summer reading programs are Tuesday at noon. Please call Stacy at 406-295-4040 for details.

The Troy library will host chess games every Saturday from 11:30-2 p.m. All ages and experience levels welcome. Bring yourself, a partner, and your favorite board. We also have boards available as well as a player/teacher/mentor and challenger. For more information please call Stacy at (406) 295-4040.

Capitol Christmas Tree Ornament Making: The Kootenai National Forest will be supplying the Capitol Christmas Tree this year! Join us at any branch library, Eureka, Libby or Troy to help make ornaments to decorate the trees and show off the “beauty of the big sky.” A special ornament will be featured each month and supplies for the ornaments will be provided while they last. Please call the library for details.

July 4, Closed: The libraries will be closed for the 4th of July holiday.

July 7, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Book Sale: the Libby Friends of the Library are having a book sale. The entrance is on Main Street across from the post office. Stop by and check out the books, movies, and music cds. It’s a great way to support your library.

July 11, 10 a.m.: Summer Reading Program, ages 3 - 12: join us at J. Neil’s Memorial Park and see how science transforms ordinary objects! Scientists have boundless imagination and are hopelessly curious. It’s all about solving the question “Why?” and not being afraid of failure. Let’s tap into our scientist’s curiosity and ask questions as we tackle our own experiment.

July 12, noon: Lemonade on the Lawn, join us at the Libby library for an author reading by Libby-native Bruce Vincent from his newest release Against the Odds: A Path Forward for Rural America. There will be free lemonade and a cookie for all attendees. Lunch will also be available for purchase.

July 18, 10 a.m.: Summer Reading Program, ages 3 - 12: join us at J. Neil’s Memorial Park for a camping extravaganza with special presenter Cass Hopkinson. Summer is a time for camping under the stars, snuggling in sleeping bags, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.

July 21, Libby/Troy Closed: The Libby and Troy libraries will be closed for in-service training. The Eureka library will be open.

July 22, 11 a.m.: Book Discussion: join us at the Libby Library for “A Hot Drink and A Good Book,” our monthly book discussion. This month features The Immortal Irishman by Timothy Egan. In this exciting and illuminating work, National Book Award winner Timothy Egan delivers a story, both rollicking and haunting, of one of the most famous Irish Americans of all time. Copies are available at the library.

July 25, 10 a.m.: Summer Reading Program, ages 3 - 12: join us at J. Neil’s Memorial Park and construct like an architect! Iggy has one passion: building. His parents are proud of his fabulous creations, though they’re sometimes surprised by his materials. Just like Iggy, we’ll use our imaginations to build our own unique creations, using everyday materials from around the house.

July 26, noon: Lemonade on the Lawn, join us at the Libby library for “Home, Home on the Ranch” by singer/historian Bill Rossiter. There will be free lemonade and a cookie for all attendees. Lunch will also be available for purchase.

July 28: Amnesty Day: the last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Public Libraries. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.
