The Libby Lady Loggers “C” team defeated Polson 62-21 on Feb. 11 to end their 2016/2017 basketball campaign. Libby was led by Shela Gallagher’s 15 points on a perfect 7 for 7 night from the floor. Bridgette Carvey followed with 14, Syd Gier with 13, and McKenzie Proffitt added another 11 points.

“It was great to have that kind of balanced scoring,” said coach Tony Smith. “We committed to a half-court offense and defense and the girls profited from their patience. We’ve been able to attack teams with our press throughout the season, but we understand that as the girls move up to the Varsity/JV level, they need to be more efficient in half court offensive sets in order to be successful.”

“I don’t know if any records were broken this season except perhaps for one: Our consumption of pizza. We may have set a record in that category that will never be broken! We were a very high energy outfit, and we needed lots of fuel to sustain that energy” he said, laughingly.

“The girls have much to celebrate: their work ethic on the basketball court and in the classroom, their dedication to the game, and most importantly, the character they displayed throughout the season. They surely epitomized what it means to be a ‘student athlete,’ and it was my pleasure to be a small part of it,” the coach said.
