Troy Mine seeks to reduce soil cap

| February 10, 2017 11:49 AM

Troy Mine Inc. has submitted an application to amend their mine operating permit with the Department of Environmental Quality. The proposed amendment would adjust the reclamation requirements for the tailings storage facility of the Troy Mine. The current reclamation plan requires placement of 18 inches of soil on the tailings storage facility. The proposed amendment would reduce the required soil cap to 8 inches.

The tailings storage facility is located on private land approximately 12 miles south of Troy in Lincoln County.

DEQ will be reviewing the amendment application and preparing a draft environmental assessment for public review in the next few months.

Copies of the amendment application can be reviewed at DEQ offices at 1520 E. 6th Ave., in Helena. The application is also available at: deq.mt.gov/Land/Hardrock.
