City of Libby seeks applicants to fill planning board vacancy

The City Planning Board is looking to fill a vacancy made available by the early December resignation of one of its seven members.

Ken Rayome, Jr. on Dec. 4 emailed his resignation to fellow board member Kristin Smith. Rayome, whose term was to expire in February 2019, was recently reappointed as Vice Chair of the Lincoln County Planning Board.

“I enjoyed my time on the City of Libby Planning Board,” Rayome tole The Western News via email.

Rayome served as what is known as a “bubble member,” which he explained is someone “appointed by the council and is a volunteer who does not live in the city limits but lives within a five-mile radius of the city.”

Rayome said he “would encourage a person with a conservative nature who can listen to the opinions and ideas of the community and other board members while providing incite and input to move the City of Libby in a direction of growth and prosperity.”

“The ideal candidate will be someone with a passion for a positive future for Libby and one who doesn’t mind getting into some of the mundane details of what that means,” Smith said via email. “The person will have good listening and communication skills and be willing to do a little homework.”

Applicants must also be willing to commit to meeting with the board once a month, Smith wrote.

In addition to Smith, the board is comprised of Gary Neff, Marvin Sather, Virginia Kocieda, Roberta McCanse and Jennifer Nelson.
