EUREKA — Eureka had the most individual champions — four — but that still wasn’t enough to help the Lions topple Plains and Whitefish at the Buzz Lucey Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Plains took the team title with a 117 total. Whitefish, 116 1/2, was second and Eureka, 112, third.

Champions for Eureka were Gunnar Smith at 113, Nathan Schmidt at 120, Jonathan Schmidt at 160 and Garrett Graves at 182. Whitefish had three individual winners in Nathan Sproul (103), Dakota Flannery (138) and Jack Eisenbarth (145).

Libby had two champs — Trey Thompson (132) and Dawson Young (152).

Also winning individual titles were Daniel Uli (126) of Plains, Garrett Croft (170) of Polson, Logan Kaminsky (205) of Bigfork and Taylor Gladeau (285) of Columbia Falls.

“The guys at the Buzz did a fantastic job,” Libby Coach Kelly Morford said via email. “They were right there in the team race despite having a partial squad. Every guy we took battled deep into the tournament. I was excited to see John Tinnell get third place as he has been really working hard all season and deserves some success. Dawson Young blew right through the competition for his first high school tournament title. I was most happy for Trey Thompson. He has been drawing a lot of tough matches this season and it was wearing on his psyche a bit. He has great potential and it showed this weekend. He beat a kid from Plains in the finals that kept him from going to State last year and that was a huge win for him mentally. Once he gets on a roll he will be hard to stop.”
