The Troy Lady Trojans defeated the Stillwater Christian Cougars this week, in a series of close matches of 25-20, 11-25, 25-20 and 25-23.

The Lady Trojans won three out of the four matches, with the Cougars at their heels all night. For most of the fourth match, the team’s scores were never more than three points away from each other.

Troy had 23 kills as a team, with eight kills from Alyssa Lewis and 18 assists from setter Allie Brown.

Along with a team-high kill count, Lewis also led the team in highest number of blocks, with three in total.

The home team had seven aces altogether, Kaitlyn Downey scored three and Olivia Short and Olivia Roach had two aces each.

Downey also led in the number of digs, with eight digs in total.

Troy had the chance to win the game when entering the fourth match 2-1. The final match got off to a rocky start for the home team, down 1-4 in the beginning. The Lady Trojans quickly caught up to the Cougars with an ace by Downey which brought the game 3-4.

The scoreboard was close for most of the final match, with lead being being tossed between the Lady Trojans and Cougars. Towards the end of the match, the fans were on the edge of their seats with the ball going back and forth over the net, and both teams showing off their strengths. In the end, the final score of 25-23 sent both the Lady Trojans and the crowd cheering.

“I’m really happy for them,” head coach Mandy Love said. “They needed a win after last weekend.”

Allie Coldwell shot two aces right away in the start of the first match, starting off the game 2-0.

The Cougars then took back the ball, catching up to Troy with two points of their own. The game was then tied, but the Lady Trojans took it back thanks to a strike by outside hitter Roach, taking the game 3-4.

After the Lady Trojans took the lead, the Cougars didn’t fall behind for very long. In a series of scores by both teams, the game came to 7-6 when middle blocker Lewis swatted a strike down to pad the lead at 8-6. Soon after, the Cougars took back the lead 12-11.

Troy then turned the tables with a 5-point lead 22-17. The Cougars started to catch up, but in the end Troy claimed the first match, 25-20.

Troy took the lead in the beginning of the second match, but soon the home team were trailing behind 8-15.

The Lady Trojans had a good run for a moment in the second match. Lewis scored for Troy with two blocks in a row, Sami Rohrich and Coldwell collectively shot the ball down and Roach slammed another spike, bringing back some momentum for the Trojans. However, the Trojans ultimately fell to the Cougars 11-25 at the end of the second match.

After a series of strikes by Roach and Lewis and a serves by Kylie Carr, the Lady Trojans took the long lead in the third match with 15-3.

The Lady Trojans had an over 10-point lead for most of the third match, but the Cougars started to catch up to the Trojans with 22-17 on the scoreboard. Despite the Cougar’s leap in points the Lady Trojans were able to hold Stillwater off and ended the match shortly at 25-20.

The fourth match ended 25-23.

The Lady Trojan volleyball team played Noxon last night, but the game was not finished by press time. The Trojans will also play Eureka at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Eureka.
