A 28-year-old man was sentenced to four years in the Treasure State Correctional Training Center restorative justice program on Monday for violating his probation.

On July 27, 2015, Joushua Covey pleaded guilty to felony possession of dangerous drugs along with two misdemeanors, obscuring the identity of a machine and partner or family member assault.

He was sentenced to five years with credit for 117 days served for the felony and six months each for the misdemeanors. All were suspended.

Monday’s ruling by District Court Judge James Wheelis ordered Covey to complete his original sentence.

According to court records, Covey began using methamphetamine in January and was placed in jail for 72 hours on Feb. 22 because of it.

In June, he was placed in jail again for 72 hours for using meth and having unauthorized contact with a woman.

He was placed in the Montana Chemical Dependency Center Program on July 13 and completed it on Aug. 10.

He tested positive for meth and Oxycodone on Sept. 30 and was jailed that day.

According to court records, Covey admitted to taking the vehicle identification number off the truck he owned and put it on a truck that a neighbor had left. The latter vehicle had been totaled.
