On Nov. 8, we will be choosing a new judge for the District Court. The importance of a well-qualified individual who will preside over civil and criminal matters cannot be overstated.

As a retired attorney with broad experience in civil matters and 10 years as a county attorney handling both county government matters and criminal cases, I am well aware of the importance of choosing a very highly qualified individual to be our next judge.

Over the course of the next 10 to 20 years, our county has a great opportunity to grow vibrantly. Our 2.2 million acres of public land offer one of the finest year-round, outdoor recreation sites in the United States, and makes us a great tourist destination vacation area and a very attractive retirement place as well. Add to that two new silver and copper mines and we have a great future.

All this activity will also mean a very busy court which will need a judge who has the experience, intellect and temperament to perform the responsibilities of the office with honor and respect.

Cuffe exemplifies all of the qualities needed for an excellent judge. He has earned the highest rating given to attorneys. Further, he is a senior partner in one of the state’s most respected law firms. Among his peers, Matt has an excellent reputation for high ethical standards and trustworthiness. He has chosen to leave a great job and come home to be a part of building Lincoln County’s future. I believe he will become one of Montana’s finest district court judges.
