After petitioning for Troy High School to play 8-man football next year, there is now discussion about going to Class C for all Troy High School athletics.

On Tuesday night, Troy Public Schools held an informational meeting to discuss the issue.

Athletic Director Jeff Hawk gave a presentation on where Troy High School enrollment compares to Class B and C schools.

According to Hawk’s estimation, Troy is the third smallest school in Class B right now, and if they moved to Class C, they would rank in the top 10 for enrollment numbers.

Hawk also mentioned that travel costs for sports won’t see a significant change, and also noted that Class C isn’t necessarily less competitive.

After the presentation was over, Hawk turned over the meeting for questions and comments from the audience.

Not everyone agrees with the proposed change. Some of the parents, coaches and students voiced their concerns, among them that atheletes could fall “under the radar” of college recruiters.

The Troy School Board will decide on whether to petition for Class C status on Nov. 14.
