A 37-year-old Troy man was killed and a 36-year-old woman injured when the ATV they were riding went off the road Friday and struck a tree.

According to Josh Brown of the Montana Highway Patrol office in Kalispell, the man was driving the vehicle with the woman riding behind him. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday the victim was operating a four wheeler on Iron Grouse Road in Troy, with a 36-year-old female passenger on the back. Preliminary information indicates the vehicle went off the left shoulder of the road and struck a tree.

First responders proclaimed the man, whose identity has yet to be released by law enforcement, deceased at the scene. The woman was transported to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, where she was treated and released, according to Brown. Two younger riders on a second ATV were not involved in the crash.

Further details of the crash are unavailable as the investigation by Montana Highway Patrol is ongoing, but Brown indicated speed was a factor in the fatal accident.
