42, of Libby

 

Charles Joseph Thomson, 42, of Libby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, May 1, 2016, at his home after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on May 25, 1973, to Collin and Connie Thomson of Libby. He attended St. John Lutheran School, McGrade Elementary and graduated in 1991 from Libby High School.  

Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle and was an avid gun enthusiast. He joined the United States Air Force after graduating and retired after serving 20 years. He was stationed in Alaska, California, Arkansas and Germany. He was deployed to the Middle East several times, and received many awards and ribbons. 

He met Amy while stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. They were married in 1999 at Libby Baptist Church. He was a foster father to many children while stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas. He volunteered with the U.S.O. and ministered to wounded soldiers while stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. 

He moved back to Libby after his retirement and worked at Sears and then at Glacier National Park. 

He served his country proudly and loved his family dearly. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Robert and Rose Schliep and paternal grandparents Harold and Gene Thomson, all of Libby. 

Survivors include his wife Amy, their three children Ryan of Arkansas and Miranda and Alisha of Libby; parents Collin and Connie Thomson of Libby; sister Dea Gillespie (Bryan) and children Tayler, Mathew, Morgan, Megan, Abby and great-nephew Collin, all of Missoula; best friend Tammy Brown of Libby and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and his two dogs, Duke and Daisy.

Services will be Friday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at The Libby Christian Church with military honors at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kootenai Valley Christian School, which his daughter attends. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.
