The StoryTelling Company and the Cross Border Band are teaming tonight at the K.W. Maki Theatre in Libby to present a collection of stories and songs based upon the common theme of growing up wild.

The free live stage show — brought to Libby by the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness — is a lively collection of tales and music reflecting the values learned from growing up in and around wild country, and where that sort of childhood might take you later. The show will highlight adventures stretching from Connecticut to the Yukon and beyond, including some right here in Montana.

Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Project Coordinator Sandy Compton said the show will teach people of all ages about life in the wild.

“Learn what it takes to hike the ‘Big Three’ — The Continental Divide, Appalachian and Pacific Crest National Scenic Trails,” he said. “Resonate with what happens when someone is told, ‘Why don’t you kids go outside and play?’

Show goers from Libby are certain to recognize themselves in some of these stories and songs, a number of which are completely homegrown. The Cross Border Band, whose style might be characterized as raw bluegrass, sings two original songs in particular that western Montanans will appreciate, the namesake song for this show, ‘Growing Up Wild,’ and ‘I Don’t Know Any Better.’”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the free show, which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. While admission is free, donations for the food bank are greatly appreciated.
