The City of Troy is seeking public comments regarding the placement of shade trees and a handicap-accessible platform at the Troy Fish Pond.

The additions, which will be funded from a grant awarded to the city by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, are intended to improve the recreational experience at the pond.

“If you have been to our pond it is really missing shade,” he said. “So I was looking for a place to help us to provide not only trees but a shade structure as well. Actually my sister called me one day and asked if I was aware of the grant available to communities to improve current fishing ponds. It just so happened that the deadline was the end of last month. So I put together a proposal and a request for funding. This amount will provide for all the trees and a slab at the other end of the pond for handicap access.”

The 20x20 cement pad will be built to meet accessibility standards, and will accommodate wheelchairs, allowing access to a body of water that is difficult to access for those that are physically challenged.  The City of Troy is hoping to have this project completed the spring of 2016.

Copies of the environmental assessment for this project, are available at Troy City Hall, or is available electronically, or via mail upon request. Requests for copies of the environmental assessment should be sent to Troy City Hall P.O. Box 823 Troy, MT 59935, 406-295-4151, citytroy@troymt.net.

The deadline for comments is 5 p.m., March 23, 2016.
