The Libby Loggers suffered a tough loss in the Western A District tournament opener on Thursday in Florence, falling 12-1 to the Glacer Twins.

The Loggers piled up just three hits in the opening game, with their only run coming in the top of the seventh. Glacier, on the other hand, came out swinging from the start, putting up six runs in the first inning, four in the second and two more in the third.

“Border Patrol” brothers Brady and Seth Bateman both went 1-for-3 at the plate. Collin Johnson batted 1-for-2 and posted one RBI for the lone Libby run, scored by Braydan Thom.

Twins batter James Sampson started the first-inning streak for the Twins with a double to left field that scored Tristin Steinwand. AJ Wetsch smacked a 2RBI single into right field to score Sampson and Vinny Smith, who led Glacier at the plate on 2-for-3 batting with two runs and an RBI. Greyson Bistodeau drove Wetsch in with a single to right field and scored a few plays later, ending the bottom of the first inning with a deep 6-0 lead.

The Twins slowed their roll in the following innings but still managed to put up six runs in the second and third inning to pad their lead. Loggers’ pitcher Erik Lauer gave up 10 hits and eight earned runs in the first four innings before Tim Carvey closed out the remaining frames.

Thom was able to post one run for the Libby squad, driven in by Johnson who singled a line drive into center field.

The Loggers finished with three hits and four errors. The Twins wrapped up game one in the tournament with 10 hits and just one error.

Libby now looks to climb their way out of the consolation bracket at 11:30 this morning against the losing team from Bitterroot vs. Mission Valley game that took place Thursday night.
