The Lady Loggers fought a tough first half against the Lady Pirates of Polson Saturday evening, but couldn’t overcome a barrage of second half three pointers. Polson defended their home court and defeated the Lady Loggers 44-32.

The girls fought to a 10-10 stalemate at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Pirates managed to take a one-point edge into the locker room at the half, after outpacing the Lady Loggers 7-6 in the second quarter.

Then the wheels came off for the Lady Loggers.

“Things fell apart on defense in the second half for us,” said head coach Jim May. “We gave up three three-pointers in a 60-second span of the second half and tried to play catch-up the rest of the way.”

Those three-pointers were the big difference in the game, as Polson stretched their lead to 11 during the critical third period. The Lady Loggers tried to battle back in the final period, but were unable to overcome the third quarter gains of the Lady Pirates.

Shannon Reny led the Lady Loggers with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

May said he expects his team to fight back with a week of solid practice in preparation for games against Bigfork and Thompson Falls this weekend.

“The kids were not happy with the game and I predict they will bounce back with a lot of energy in practice this week,” he said.
