The Libby Loggers opened up a two-game road trip with a victory over the Frenchtown Broncs Friday evening, 72-63.

The Loggers jumped out early with a 22-15 lead after the first quarter. The Broncs fought back, closing the gap to just five at the half. By the end of the third quarter, Libby’s boys had stretched their lead back to double digits, holding on to a 56-46 advantage. They held on to win the game by nine.

Libby freshman Ryggs Johnston led all scorers with 25 points, hitting six of 10 from beyond the three-point line. He also added seven rebounds. Erik Lauer and Anthony Johnson both hit double figures as well, with 13 and 10 respectively.

Head coach Josh Bean was pleased with his team’s effort, although he stressed the need for better defensive play.

“We played a solid game on the offensive end,” Bean said. “We got the ball out and transitioned well and ended up with easy opportunities. We also shot the ball well from the perimeter. Our defense needs to get better. The one thing we did well was keep their big guys off the glass.”
