A Libby local has been hired on to the Libby Elementary School staff for the upcoming school year.

Jessica Thoeny, 22 year old daughter of Todd and Tammy Robins, is going to be teaching fifth grade starting on August 31.

“I’m excited to have a part in [the students’] lives,” Thoeny said.

Thoeny is familiar with Libby Schools, working as a substitute teacher there for three years during her university education, student teaching at Libby and taking over the special education position from April until June of this year.

Thoeny said she had a great experience working as a teacher last year. “It was a good feeling to know that I could be a stable part of their lives when some of them don’t have stable home lives.”

“I pretty much always wanted to be a teacher,” Thoeny said. Thoeny then said that when she was in elementary school, she used to teach her younger sister everything she learned in school that day.

Thoeny graduated in 2012 from Libby High School. Afterwards, she attended Western Governors University online.

After attaining her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies, Thoeny proceeded to student teach at Libby High School.
