Wallace James Talsma, age 83 passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, after a long illness. He was born March 14, 1933, to Joe and Marjorie Talsma in Mora, Minn.

The Talsma family moved from Minnesota to Post Falls, Idaho, then settled in Libby. Hard work was a big part of their lives, share cropping to pay rent and clearing land with dynamite. Wally’s family appreciated the simple things in life, never taking things or friendships for granted. 

Wally also loved driving his logging truck and working at the mill. Hunting and fishing were important parts of his life. In October 1966, Wally bagged a 20 pound turkey near Plains, one of the biggest in Sanders County. Looking out his living room window, watching for the elk on Mt. Silcox was a passion of Wally’s as well as filling the water pans in his yard for the deer that would visit daily.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents and brother Walter. Surviving are his sister Marjorie Stohs of Moscow, Idaho and her children, niece Connie and John Horgan and children Christopher and Kimberly and their son Henry, and Jeffrey; niece Carla and Charlie Jasper and children Amanda and Christopher Roberts and son Charlie, and Megan; nephew Larry and Jill Stohs and children Jennifer and Nick Silflow and Erin Stohs and her children, Mya and Jaxon.

Also surviving, nephew Neal and Sharla Talsma and sons Levi and Ryan; niece Sylvia Talsma and son Russell; niece Laura and Jim Nethercott and children, Tyler and Monica, Trina, Chad and Samantha and sons Eli and Ivan. 

A celebration of Wally’s life will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Montana Power Co. Park in Thompson Falls. Feel free to bring a covered dish along with pictures and memories.
