Lady Loggers pick up two wins on road trip

The Lady Loggers tennis team went on the road Saturday, traveling to Corvallis to face Corvallis and Valley Christian, then moving on to Stevensville later that same afternoon. The girls dropped the opener to Corvallis but battled back to knock off Valley Christian and Stevensville.

All four Lady Loggers’ singles players fell to Corvallis. Kaylene Hudson dropped 2-6, 3-6 to Emma Pickett; Sarah McBride fell to Emilie Thomas, 4-6, 2-6; Kristine Belista lost to Olivia Fehr, 0-6, 0-6 and Daniele Wilson was blanked by Kristine Saturday, 0-6, 0-6.

In doubles action, Mehki Sykes and Dani Hawthorne thumped Rebecca Weidkamp, 6-0, 6-1 and Cloie Boardner and Jenna Barrick took out Taylor Saturday and Lauren Vietz in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Jessika Jones and Jillian Hawthorne fell to Claire Pickett and Hailey Vietz, 2-6, 2-6.

The girls bounced back with an impressive 4-0 win over Valley Christian later Saturday morning.

In singles action, Jessika Jones beat Larissa Sweet, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 and Marissa Wood knocked off Lea Gress, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. 

Jenna Barrick and Cloie Boardner took a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Sophie Kochel and Erika Howard and Dani Hawthorne and Mehki Sykes defeated Cheyanne Jones and Kelcie Hill, 7-5, 6-2.

The team then loaded onto the bus and traveled to Stevensville to face the Yellowjackets, coming out on top, 5-2.

Kaylene Hudson beat Jackie Westman, 6-1, 6-3; Jessika Jones defeated Ashley Eyre, 6-1, 6-1 and Marissa Wood took down Edna Martinez, 6-3, 6-1. Sarah McBride fell to Shelby Spokas, 4-6, 3-6.

In doubles play, Jillian Hawthorne and Kristine Belista beat Brianne Bartschi and Anola Goodson, 7-5, 6-0 and Dani Hawthorne and Mehki Sykes blanked Alex Deschamps and Emma Blyton, 6-0, 6-0. Jenna Barrick and Cloie Boardner fell to Allison Enzler and Danielle Haacke, 3-6, 0-6.
