The Lady Loggers continued their impressive early season run with a decisive victory over in-county rival Troy Tuesday night. The Libby girls won 21-2 after four and one-half innings of play.

The Lady Loggers scored first, bringing one batter across the plate in the bottom of the first inning. They added five in the second to take a 6-0 lead before the Lady Trojans scored their first run in the top of the third. The Lady Loggers responded with four in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-1 lead. Troy pushed another runner around the bases in the top of the fourth, but Libby responded with 11 runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch the lead to 19. The game ended when Troy was unable to score in the top of the fifth.

Under Montana High School Association rules, games are ended after five innings with a 10-run differential between the teams, or after three in the case of a 15-run gap.

Troy coach Keith Haggerty praised the efforts of both the Lady Loggers and his team.

“We faced a strong pitcher who did well,” he said. “The ladies from Libby played a good game. Our pitcher Kylie Carr pitched well and did her job tossing strikes. She is a tough ball player. Early she took a hard shot off of her shin and was able to stay in and pitch the rest of the game. Our defense needed to back her up and make all the routine plays. That would have kept us in a tight one. We had a few bats wake up that provided a little spark for the Lady Trojans. Ashley Gromley and Riley Maggi were able to earn a couple of hits off a pitcher that had a few more tricks than others we have faced this year. Ashley is a first time player with great composure and Riley has been working hard for the past couple of months. It shows by her leading the team in RBIs”.

Lady Loggers coach Dean Thompson was pleased with his team’s veterans and the leadership they provide to the younger players.

“The are starting to hit the ball,” he said. “They are coming together as a team.  We are a young group but the older players are helping out the young players.  Madisen Monigold had a great outing going 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs.”

The Lady Trojans faced Bonners Ferry Thursday afternoon, but results were not available as of press time.

The Lady Loggers played at Thompson Falls Thursday, also after press time.
