Logger tennis: Boys take first three matches of season

The Libby Loggers started the boys tennis season off in style, handing Hamilton, Polson and Troy defeats in their opening matches of the season.

The boys beat the Broncs of Hamilton 5-2 on March 31.

The two defeats came as No. 1 Singles Cody Wood fell 3-6, 2-6 to Hamilton’s Alex Raymond and No. 3 Doubles team Dameon Kelch and Virgil Sadewasser dropped 1-6, 4-6 to Cody Kirkpatrick and Will Torres.

In No. 2 Singles, Jason Brant dispatched Ray Allison, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 3 Singles Colin Maloney defeated Spencer Tredik, 6-2, 6-2 and in No. 4 Singles Jhamaal Sykes beat Sam Toenjes 7-5, 7(6)-6.

The No. 1 Doubles team of Erik Lauer and Braydan Thom defeated Mason Tredik and Ahon McClean, 7-5, 6-1. Ryan Nagle and Raffi Weber, in No. 2 Doubles, were also victorious, beating Dana Parker and Andrew Merkl 6-4, 6-1.

The Polson Pirates gave the Loggers a harder test, but Libby’s boys managed to hold them off and secure the 4-3 victory.

Wood and Sykes both lost against Polson’s Colin Kenny (6-7, 4-6) and Quaid Harlan (0-6, 0-6), respectively. Brant and Maloney, in Nos. 3 and 4, beat Scott Sicz (6-0, 6-1) and Kaiden Forman-Webster (6-0, 6-1).

Lauer and Thom fell in No. 1 doubles, 4-6, 4-6, to Cadis Chowning and Matt Sitler. Ryan Nagle and Raffi Weber beat Kabe Forman-Webster and Carson McDanial. After being blanked 0-6 in the first set, they stormed back with 6-2, 6-2 wins to claim the match. Raymond Sadewasser and Virgil Sadewasser beat Tyler Bledsoe and Wyatt Ducharme, 6-0, 6-3.

On Saturday, April 2, the boys traveled to Troy to face the Trojans. The Loggers again emerged victorious, 6-0.

Wood defeated Noah Caballero, 6-0, 6-0. Brant beat Cody Osterberg, 6-0, 6-1. Maloney took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dylan Cummings and Sykes blanked Zach Cotten, 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles matches were listed as exhibition/forfeit in the official scores.
