October fun at the library

The Lincoln County Public Library will be hosting a number of free and open public events during the month of October. 

Each of the three library branches offers story time for preschool-aged children once per week. Libby’s story time is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Troy’s is at 11:15 a.m. Friday and Eureka’s is at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Troy branch also hosts chess games every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Players of all ages and experience levels are welcome.

Oct. 2, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.: The Libby Friends of the Library will be hosting a book sale at the Libby branch. Proceeds are used to support the library.

Oct. 6, 6 p.m.: Libby Friends of the Library meeting, this meeting is open to the public and all are welcome.

Oct. 7, 4 p.m.: Libby branch after school program, “Star Wars Reads Day.” Children will make their own Wookiee warrior to celebrate the coming of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens later this year.

Oct. 14, 4 p.m.: Libby branch after school program, “Apocalyptic Zombie Day.” Children will practice putting on zombie make-up and taking to the streets.

Oct. 16, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.: Special book sale by Libby Friends of the Library. Please enter through the Main Street door across from the post office.

Oct. 21, 4 p.m.: “Invent a Monster” at the Libby branch. The library will provide the arts and crafts supplies so children can build their own monsters.

Oct. 24, 11 a.m.: This month’s book discussion features “The 19th Wife,” by David Ebershoff. It is the story of Ann Eliza Young’s crusade against polygamy and a tale of murder in modern-day Utah. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library.

Oct. 28, 4 p.m.: Libby branch after school program features a Halloween pumpkin face and float contest. Children should bring a pumpkin to decorate and see which will stay lit and float the best. The winner will receive a Halloween-themed prize.

Oct. 29, 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.: The Libby Friends of the Library will hold a silent auction at Cabinet Mountain Brewery.

Oct. 30, all day: The last Friday of each month is amnesty day. Any materials less than 90 days overdue and returned in good condition will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included in amnesty day.
