Lady Loggers pick up two more volleyball wins

The Lady Loggers volleyball team went the distance last week, notching tough wins against Eureka Tuesday afternoon and Bigfork Saturday for Homecoming.

Libby dropped the first game Tuesday against Eureka, 18-25, but then stormed back to take the next three and claim the match. The final scores were 18-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21.

The Lady Loggers racked up 38 kills in the match, led by Mehki Sykes’ 13. The offense also added 11 aces, with three each from Ashley Walker, Bailie Rosling and India Croucher.

Defensively, the girls put up 13 blocks, seven coming from Emily Mossburg. They Lady Loggers added 48 digs, 25 of which came from Rosling.

The strong Loggers’ play continued Saturday, when the Valkyries of Bigfork rolled into town for Libby’s Homecoming.

The Loggers looked to have control of the match early, picking up the first two games 25-19 and 25-16, but the Vals fought their way to victory in the next two, 21-25 and 23-25. The Lady Loggers hung on to win the fifth and deciding game 17-15 to claim the match.

Libby’s girls put down 51 kills in the match, led by Sykes with 15 and Haylee Cannon with 10. Libby also had 20 aces in the match, led by Karyne Luscher’s six and Walker’s five. Walker also tallied 26 of the team’s 46 total assists.

Defensively, the Lady Loggers had 74 digs, 25 of which came from Rosling. Sykes added five blocks to the victorious effort.

The girls’ next match is at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Falls.
