Recount changes totals, not results

The official recount of ballots for Libby City Council was conducted Monday morning, with differences of one vote each recorded for three candidates, but the changes did not affect the overall results of the election.

Assistant election administrator Leigh Riggleman said the recount resulted in one additional vote each for Brian Zimmerman and Joe A. Miller, and one less vote for Doug Roll. The changing totals did not impact the final results, with Zimmerman and incumbents Peggy Williams and Allen Olsen winning election to the council.

Zimmerman’s total vote count went from 211 to 212 in the recount, with Miller going from 166 to 167 and Roll falling from 53 to 52, according to Riggleman.

“The recount went off without a hitch,” Riggleman said. “The judges and elected officials worked flawlessly together. Mr. Orr had one question about one of the over-vote ballots but the judges were able to answer his concerns. Five hundred twenty ballots were cast and counted and we are good to go.”

Orr said he was satisfied with the results of the recount.

“My concerns were always with the administration, but these folks were professional,” he said. “They came up with a slightly different result, but after watching them do their work I understand how difficult their job is. I wish Allen Olsen the best of luck. I know he’ll do a good job, he’s already proven that.”
