Betty C. Paulson

Betty C. Paulson, 91, of Libby, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Libby Care Center. She was born on Sept. 23, 1923, at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Ralph and Sadie Welch.  

Betty graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing Academy in Spokane in 1947. She worked in the hospital in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, for years.  When World War II ended, she married Bruce Calhoun in 1945. They farmed the home place in District No. 11 in Bonners Ferry. They raised two boys on the farm, William R. and Burton B. Calhoun.

Betty loved horseback riding, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting in her spare time. In 1963, they moved to Libby. In 1972, Betty was divorced and later married George Paulson. She and George had a great life together doing all the things they loved and raised his two children, Lowell and Connie Paulson, until George’s death in 1998. Betty was a dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors include her two sons, William R. Calhoun (Frances) and Burton B. Calhoun (Susan); stepchildren, Lowell Paulson (Linda) and Connie Johnson (John); sister Louella Green; niece Sandra Fulgham (Gene); cousin David McDonald (Phyllis); grandchildren, Bruce, Brian, Lisa, Stayton, Stacey; great-grandchildren Keith, Marcella, Gabriella, Ryan, Azhia, Mac and Isaac.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Libby. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
