In Columbia Falls on Saturday afternoon, the Lady Trojans were outscored by 10 points in the second quarter and went on to lose to Thompson Falls by a score of 32-43 in a District 7-B seeding game.

Playing in their fifth game in nine days, the Trojans showed a little bit of fatigue said Troy coach Justin Young.

The Lady Trojans scored the first five points of the game, but Thompson Falls drew even by the end of the first quarter.

“After that, we went into a real bad offensive funk,” Young said. The Lady Trojans were only able to convert one basket in the second quarter.

Coming out in the second half with a lot of fight, Troy was able to pull within four points a couple times in the second half, but couldn’t completely close the gap. “Our effort in the second half showed real mental toughness,” said Young.

The Lady Trojans were led by the freshman duo of Allie Coldwell, who scored 12 points, and Aurora Becquart with nine.

Troy fell to 6-15 on the season and will enter the tournament as the fourth seed from district 7-B. The team will travel to Kalispell on Feb. 25, where they’ll face the No. 1 seed from district 6-B, the Ronan Maidens at 1 p.m. The tournament is a double-elimination tournament.

At Plains on Thursday, the Lady Trojans were controlled by a well-coached and athletic Trotters team that won 26-53.

Plains started the game shooting the lights out, going 3-3 on 3-pointers. “There a very good team, they came out shooting the ball very well,” Young said.

Four Plains players scored in double figures, led by Hailey Phillips and Kayla Holmes, who each scored 12 points. Kimberly Earhart added 11, and Carley Vonheeder had 10.

Trailing 11-34 at halftime, the Lady Trojans needed a big second half to chip away at the Trotters’ lead. Troy played Plains tough in the third and fourth quarters, but they were still outscored by one point in both quarters.

Young said the Trotters played a tough defensive game. “They really packed it in and we weren’t able to draw them out,” he said.

Kaitlyn Downey had an exceptional game, scoring more than half of the Lady Trojans points on the way to a game high 14 points.

The Trotters improved to an impressive 16-3 on the season.
