The Lady Loggers and Lady Trojans played three quarters of neck-and-neck basketball Tuesday night, before Libby’s girls pulled away in the final period to secure the 44-32 win.

The two teams played a well-matched first quarter, which ended in an 11-11 tie.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the second quarter, with the Lady Trojans coming out with a one-point lead as the teams broke for the intermission, 19-18.

As the third quarter began, the ladies went back and forth scoring points. Libby managed to take a three-point lead as the quarter ended, 30-27.

The Lady Loggers poured it on in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Trojans 14-5 to put the game away. The final score was 44-32.

Lady Trojans head coach Justin Young said that while the night could have ended better for his team, he was impressed with their performance.

“It was not the outcome we wanted, but I was proud of how the girls fought the entire night,” he said.

Young attributed the Lady Trojans’ difficulty to a lack of execution, which resulted in early foul trouble.

“We were a little sloppy on our offensive execution and had a poor shooting night,” said Young. “Foul trouble plagued us as well. We had three girls in foul trouble before the halfway point of the second quarter. It’s hard to win ball games when you put yourself in that situation.”

Young praised the work of the Lady Loggers and their coaches, head coach Jim May and assistant coach Wally Winslow, saying the Libby girls earned their win.

“They worked their butts off and deserved the win,” said Young.

The Lady Loggers next host the Bonners Ferrys Badgers Saturday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. The Lady Trojans also next play at home, facing the Lady Bluehawks of Thompson Falls Saturday, Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
