92, of Troy

 

Robert Wesley Gambill, 92, of Troy, died on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Allyn, Wash. He was born in Declo, Idaho, on May 29, 1923, to John and Pearl Gambill. They moved to Divide in 1924 and then to Butte in 1928. He attended school in the Butte Public Schools. 

Robert served in the Merchant Marines from 1944 until 1946. He married Charis J. Lane on Aug. 18, 1946. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering from Montana School of Mines in 1947. Robert worked for Howe Sound Mining Company in late 1947 until early 1948. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation for over 35 years from 1948 until 1983. He worked in many capacities of quality control, metallurgy and suspension.  He had three overseas assignments, two in South America and a two-year stay in Ghana, Africa.  He retired to Bull Lake in 1983, south of Troy.

Robert was involved in several volunteer projects in the community and church during retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife Charis.

Survivors include his six children, Robert Gambill, Jr., Susan Fontana, Laurie Myers, Jill Olson, Scott Gambill and Leslie Brost; grandchildren Chad Gambill and Courtney Buzzard, Sara and Ryan Olson, Lane and Colin Gambill; and his sister Marjorie Bergstedt. Robert also had six great-grandchildren.

Robert’s remains, along with those of his wife Charis, will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane, Wash. with his parents, John and Pearl Gambill. A celebration of life will be held at Mont Lamm Events in Clayton, Wash., on Sunday, May 29, 2016.
