With smoke in the air due to the surrounding forest fires the CARD Clinic in Libby would like to remind people with respiratory problems such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis the proper precautions to take.

People living in close proximity to the fire-stricken areas should remain indoors and avoid inhalation of smoke and ashes.

Don’t count on a dust mask. Ordinary dust masks, designed to filter out large particles will not help as they will allow more dangerous smaller particles to pass through.

Don’t exercise outside if you live close to the fire-stricken areas. If the smell of smoke is in the air it’s recommended that people don’t exercise outside.

Put air conditioners on recirculate and stay inside as much as possible with doors, windows and fireplace dampers shut.

Due to the higher levels of pollutants in some areas, there is a possibility of experiencing increased symptoms. People are encouraged to contact their physician immediately if they experience any issues.
