Libby schools are vital to community

| August 7, 2015 8:41 AM

I retired two years ago and, to my surprise, retirement didn’t fit me. I needed something to occupy my time, something meaningful, that would allow me to give back to life after all the years of always taking from life.

So, I decided to try substitute teaching. What a fabulous decision that has been. At last I have been able to experience a very small part of what teaching is all about. What a joy I have felt being able to be a small part of the teachers’ and students’ educational day.

I have heard grumblings about how the students are not getting a good education from our school system. To that I say, “B.S.”

Today’s educational system is so complex and convoluted that very few people understand the baffling maze that these people must face and work in every day. I know that I don’t.

Before we start condemning the school system, let us first examine ourselves and our community.

How can a community that has the problems that we have in our city government and one that can support around 14 bars and casinos, but not support our school system, ever hope to attract vibrant businesses? Businesses that will employ families with children.

Scenery, hunting and fishing will only go so far as an attraction for business.

Thank you, Libby School District for allowing me into your world.
