It was a Lincoln County track showdown on Saturday in Eureka with the home team earning the top spot for both boys and girls, followed by Libby and then Troy.

For the Logger boys, Collin Johnson blew away the competition in the 800-meter race by an 18-second margin. Johnson also earned second place in the long jump and took third in the high jump to round out a successful day for the senior.

Libby’s Luke Adamson cleared 10 feet in the pole vault competition to earn first in the event.

Led by Dylan Lane’s throw of 130 feet, Libby dominated the javelin throw earning the top five finishes in the event.

Head coach for the Loggers, Jim May, said the team is making strides. “We are pleased with the progress our kids are making. Their early season conditioning is starting to pay off for most of them,” he said.

Shyla Stevenson had a good day in the sprints, handily winning the 200-meter dash and coming in a close second in the 100.

Libby’s girls took the top four spots in the discus. Shelbie McLinden’s throw of 90-10 was five feet further than second-place.

May would like to see as many fans as possible come out to root on the Loggers as they host an invitational track event this Saturday.

Trojan multi-threat trackster Sean Opland had another impressive outing taking first place in the 200-meter dash, high jump, triple jump and long jump.

Troy head coach Neal Newton said Opland is working on his start in the 100. “When he improves that start, watch out,” Newton said.

Newton said with Troy’s spring break wrapping up this past weekend and a bug causing some athletes to fall ill, the team took a small crew to the invitational.

Allie Coldwell soared to personal bests in the long jump and triple jump. “Every track meet she just keeps on pushing that mark out there so that’s good to see. She’s a hard working kid,” Newton said.

“I’ve been really proud of the kids and their effort; we have a great group of kids. Us coaches have really been enjoying ourselves this season,” Newton said.

Libby and Troy will both travel to the Thompson Falls Invitational Thursday.
