Libby boys cruise past Polson soccer

The Libby Loggers (2-2, 3-5) beat the winless Polson soccer team Saturday. An own goal by the Pirates gifted the visiting Loggers a lead in the seventh minute. The Loggers earned a goal seven minutes later when Walter Briones slotted home an opportunity presented by teammate Colin Maloney.

The Loggers defended the lead with strong possession, allowing only three shots in the game.

Libby’s aggression — they were called for 15 fouls to Polson’s three — earned them the advantage in corner kicks and led to seven shots on target.

The Loggers travel Tuesday to Bigfork for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.

Sarah Howell’s goal in the second minute put Polson up early. Her passes the rest of the game assured her team an easy victory.

Howell’s four assists matched Libby’s shot total. Polson finished with 27  shots, and Libby goaltender Abby Ennenga finished with 17 saves.

The Lady Loggers will look for their first win of the season on Tuesday when the team travels to Bigfork for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
