| September 19, 2014 11:21 AM

Gary Dean Hill left this earth unexpectedly last week for a better view from above. He was born Sept. 10, 1945, in Whitefish to Pauline and Dayton Hill.

Gary grew up in Libby along with three brothers, Don Hill of Libby and wife Brenda, Jim Hill and wife Sheila of Helena, Wayne Hill of Kalispell; sister Jo Thompson of Helena.

Gary spent his summers between his grandparent’s farm in Whitefish with his brothers and cousins, and at the Cabinet View Country Club where his love for golf blossomed.

Gary graduated from Libby High in 1964. Gary then attended Eastern Montana College for a short time before joining the Army. He was stationed in Korea from 1967 until 1969.

After his service, Gary attended Northern Montana College and earned a teaching degree, graduating in 1973. He married Laurie Hassler in 1973 and the couple welcomed three children: son Gary and wife Renee of Melba, Idaho; son Mark of Kalispell; and daughter Kelly of Gastonia, N.C.

He was blessed with six grandchildren: Cadence, Tyler, Ember, Keldrick, Tristin and Zane. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life.

Gary is survived by his children; grandchildren; siblings; nieces and nephews, Heidi, Steve, Mike, Kami, Sara, Levi and Tasha and their children; aunts and uncles, cousins, as well as Holly and Devin, Stacey and Landon Webb, Serena and Corinne.

A small family gathering to celebrate Gary’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014. A burial will be planned for the fall of 2015.
