Boys beat CFalls 4-2; Reny earns girls scoreless draw

A hat trick from Cody Wood propelled the Libby Loggers soccer team past Columbia Falls (1-5, 2-8) at home Saturday.

Wood earned Libby a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when he converted a penalty kick. The Wildcats tied the game early in the second half when Daniel Skinner scored from the penalty spot in the 44th minute.

An assist from Colin Maloney to international student Walter Briones in the 53rd minute put Libby ahead for a second time. Skinner tied it up again in the 62nd minute with his second goal. Wood responded decisively one minute later when Maloney assisted him to a second goal. A last-minute tally earned Wood his hat trick.

Libby Coach Charlie Webster described his team’s play as valiant. The Loggers (3-3, 4-6) host Bigfork at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

At Libby, freshman Shannon Reny is quickly making a name for herself in Northern A soccer. Her 17-save performance earned Libby a tie Saturday against a Wildkats (4-0-2, 5-1-4) team that remained undefeated in conference.

Columbia Falls had 10 corner kicks compared to Libby’s one, but for all their chances, the Wildkats were unable to strike a shot past the 5-foot-9-inch Reny.

Libby (0-4-1, 1-7-1) hosts Bigfork at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
