The Libby ballet will present a Mother’s Day performance Saturday at the Memorial Center. This performance, titled “Purely Classical,” will contain excerpts from “Swan Lake” and ”Giselle & Les Sylphides,” as well as pieces from local talented musicians and vocalists.

Performers have been preparing for this show since the late February under the instruction of Lori Stevens. The ages of the performers range from 2 to 40, and this performance will also be the first with special side stage lighting made specifically for the ballet.

The show will feature four dancers on point, including performer Monica Vogel, 18. Vogel has been practicing ballet for two years and this will be her first performance on point.

“I’m nervous, but I’m really excited because there are some cool dances,” Vogel said.

Stevens, who has been teaching ballet for 32 years, said her favorite thing about teaching is the kids.

“They are my inspiration,” Stevens said.

Stevens said this performance will be unique because it will include pieces from some of the world’s best-known classical ballets.

“I want people to take from this performance, the knowledge of how amazing and talented Libby kids are,” Stevens said.

Performance times are 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children under 12. Tickets will be sold at the door.
