Hometown Variety, the store that had something for everyone, is closing its doors.

“The long and short of it is it just didn’t work out in this market,” said Ted Werner, the store’s owner. “I’m a builder and a developer, so I hate to see anything go away.”

Hometown Variety, which opened three years ago, has eight employees. Werner said this has been a difficult decision for him.

“It’s tough. No, I don’t know when our last day will be,” Werner said. “It depends on the liquidation. These are wonderful people. I wish I could keep this going.”

Werner confirmed that Ace Home Center, Hometown Variety’s neighbor just to the east, will expand west into the Hometown Variety’s space.

“That’s correct,” Werner said. “In time, they will move this way.”

Hometown Variety offers craft supplies, greeting cards and clothing.
