The Lincoln County Public Library in Libby will be presenting a full calendar of programs in July. All events are free and open to the public.

The Libby library is pleased to offer one-on-one technology sessions; one hour set aside to help with any computer skills needed, from basic computer use to Microsoft Word, using your new Nook, Kindle, or iPad, searching on the Internet or learning how to send and receive emails. Call Jessie Pate at 283-2472 or the library’s main line at 293-2778 to schedule a one-hour session.

The Libby library will host story time for preschool age children every Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The Troy library will host story time for preschool age children every Wednesday at 11:15 a.m.

The Troy library will host chess games from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday. All ages and experience levels welcome. For more information please call Kimberly at 295-4040.

It’s “Fizz, Pop, Science” time. Learn to make a miniature volcano or a lava bottle.

Join the Friends of the Library for the start of the 19th annual Lemonade on the Lawn event at the Libby library. Stop by for some great songs and stories of work in America with Bill Rossiter. You can purchase refreshments or bring your own bag lunch. Lemonade is free.

4 p.m. 

Summer Adventure Program: Join us for another “Fizz, Pop, Science” adventure. Learn to make a miniature volcano or a lava bottle.

Birds of Northwest Montana at Libby High School. Libby High School biology teacher Gene Reckin will share his collection of local bird specimens and talk about their anatomy, physiology, special adaptations and the physics of flight, migration, ecology and identification. Visitors are asked to enter the building through the double doors that face Education Way by the practice field.

July 11

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The Libby Friends of the Library are having a book sale. The entrance is on Main Street across from the post office. Stop by and check out the books, movies, and music CDs. It’s a great way to support your library.

July 12

2 p.m. 

Book talk and signing. John Herrmann has just released a new novel, “Everybody Comes to the Red Dog.” He will visit the library to share how the novel came to be, read a selection, and answer questions.

July 15

Learn how to create some fun paint and chalk art at the library.

Summer Adventure Program: Join us as we mix science and art to make some exciting creations using paint and chalk.

Forest and Fire Ecology: Nikia Hernandez, Libby District fire management officer of the Kootenai National Forest, will speak about the local fire history and ecology, as well as the impact fuel-reduction activities can have on a wildfire event.

Join the library for A Hot Drink and a Good Book, our monthly book discussion group. This month, we’re reading “The Curiosity” by Stephen P. Kiernan.  A man, frozen in the Arctic ice for more than a century, awakens in the present day. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library.

Join us at the library for a scientific scavenger hunt and win some prizes.

The Elements of Filmmaking: Robbie Newman, of local production company Shadowhouse Films, will introduce you to the basics of making your own movies.

Amnesty Day: The last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County libraries. Any materials fewer than 90 days overdue, which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day, will have all penalties waived. Overdue inter-library loan materials are not included.

It’s Alive: Join us as we explore some “capillary action” during Biological Science at the library.

Summer Adventure Program: Join us once again at the library for “It’s Alive: Biological Science.” We’ll be learning how capillaries work using flowers or vegetables and dye.
