Besides satisfying the curiosity of those people anxious to see the interior of Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, the open house scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18, will allow those taking the tour a rare glimpse at restricted areas normally not seen by the public.

“The tours will be a great opportunity to see places — sterile areas — where the public normally would not see,” said Kate Stephens, St. John’s Lutheran Hospital Foundation executive director. “The public will get a look at our restricted areas.”

The open house will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Less than two weeks after the open house, St. John’s Lutheran Hospital will transition to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center on Jan. 30 when the new medical center opens to the public.

Bruce Whitfield, CEO of St. John’s Lutheran Hospital, said the new facility is designed with healing and patient comfort in mind, and will help staff provide quality care.

“We have invested over $35 million to create a healing environment that provides a high-quality patient experience,” Whitfield said.  “Open house attendees will get an up-close look at the future of health care in our area and learn about new technology, medical equipment, enhanced services and additional features available to them in their new hospital.”

During the open house, guided tours of the 77,000-square foot facility will showcase state-of-the-art technology and design features in areas such as the Emergency Department, Surgical Services Department, Imaging Department, OB Department, medical surgical floor, chapel, and the new River Rock Café.

“This is truly an historic event,” added Whitfield.  “The last time a new hospital was introduced in Lincoln County was over 60 years ago when members of the St. John’s Lutheran Church founded the current facility and St. John’s Lutheran Hospital was born.  Since then, this hospital has been providing excellent health care close to home.  This move to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center will carry on the tradition of quality, compassionate care in our area for the next 60-plus years.”

Attendees will be able to park on the new Cabinet Peaks Medical Center campus as it features a large parking area just outside the front doors of the facility. Open house visitors will also be offered a shuttle van to take them from their car to the front doors of the facility.

St. John’s Lutheran Hospital broke ground on Oct. 12, 2012, on a site directly across the street and behind the existing 63-year old facility and was substantially completed this month. CTA Architects and Engineers served as the architect, and Swank Enterprises served as the general contractor.
