Five Troy High School football players were honored by the District 7-B conference for their accomplishments on the field this year. Three players were named to the second team and two to the first team, one of whom made the All-State team as well.

Junior Sean Opland received top honors, making the second team as a kick returner and the first team as a linebacker and running back. Opland was also named to the All-State team in both positions.

Juniors Cody Johnston (defensive back) and Kolton Winebark (offensive line), and senior Pate Scott (running back) made the All-Conference second squad. Senior Garret Chapel (defensive end), who also recently signed a letter of intent to wrestle at the University of Great Falls, joined Opland in being named to the All-Conference first team.

Troy football coach Brendan Miller expressed his pride in the student-athletes for their hard work and accomplishments this year. “The hard work put into the off season and season paid off for these boys,” he said. Four out of the five are first time all-conference players. The two seniors worked very hard and helped me a bunch this season. I am looking forward to what the three juniors can do next season.”

Miller spoke about Chapel’s wrestling achievements as well, “he didn’t win one match his first year of wrestling,” he said. “But he came back, worked hard and won state last year.” In football, Chapel received the second-highest number of votes among conference defensive ends.

Opland, Miller said, is already receiving attention from college scouts. The junior attended a skills workshop at Oregon, which exposed him to national attention. According to the coach, Opland has received letters from schools as far away as Missouri.
