Free bikes

Anyone looking for a free bike should stop by the Lincoln County shop from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. May 5. About 15 bikes will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office held the bikes for at least 180 days, and now the agency is ready to part ways. The county shop is located on Remps Road near the Lincoln County Animal Control center.

Driving class

AARP will hold a smart driver course at Libby Christian Church in Libby from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 28. Call 283-7000.

Fine Arts

Libby Fine Arts, Inc. will meet Thursday, April 24 at Treasure Manor from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to get together, paint and share information. For more information, call 293-9282 or 293-5186.

Clean-up

The Libby Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Broom’s Day Clean-up runs April 21-28. The chamber is again partnering with Kootenai Disposal to help sweep away winter clutter. This is a free service. Kootenai Disposal will be placing green containers at Shopko Hometown, Libby Empire Foods and the chamber’s parking lot.

Celebration

Libby Care Center will celebrate Rainy Sichting’s 25 years of service from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 28.

Cake and beverages will be provided in celebration of Rainy’s retirement. Anyone is welcome to attend.

FEC election

Three incumbents have been re-elected to the board of trustees for Flathead Electric Cooperative.

Paul Holland in District 8 was the only trustee with opposition. He received 3,431 votes to challenger James Fagan’s 1,653.

Incumbents, Duane Braaten in District 6 and Earl Messick in District 9, were re-elected without opposition. Balloting closed April 11. A total of 5,422 total ballots were received.

Berget appointed

to rail council

Lincoln County Commissioner Tony Berget has been appointed to serve on the state’s Rail Service Competition Council.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock recently made the appointment. Berget was appointed because of his knowledge of mineral industry transportation.

The Rail Service Council was created in 2005 by the state Legislature. The council works to promote rail service competition in the state, develop related plans, evaluate taxing practices, access organizational structures to help facilitate development of rail services, coordinate with railroads, and promote expansion and construction of rail services.

The 13-member council meets on a regular basis throughout the year.

Ducks Unlimited

The 29th Annual Kootenai Ducks Unlimited Conservation Dinner is Saturday, April 26 at the Ponderosa Room in Libby.

Festivities start at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m., and then auctions and raffles at 7 p.m.
