Libby City Councilman and mayoral candidate Allen Olsen is under investigation for a hunting incident.

“There is an ongoing investigation,” Game Warden Tamie Laverdure said.

Libby resident Richard A. Robinson, 39, said he filed the complaint this week, although he could not recall which day.

Olsen says Laverdure visited him on Tuesday at his residence on 33692 Highway 2 where he shot a three-point buck 10 months ago. Laverdure confirmed the visit.

“I showed her where I shot, and she said it was strictly legal,” Olsen said. “Her only other question was if I used my wife’s tag. I said I am not married. I shot the deer with my girlfriend of the time and used my own tag.”

Robinson’s complaint concerned the proximity of Bowen Hill, which sits approximately 150 feet atop the hill, below which Olsen frequently shoots.

Robinson said he is in a relationship with the sister of the woman with whom Olsen shot the deer.

“I share a child with my ex-girlfriend, and I believe this is about a custody battle,” Olsen said. “It’s an election year.”
